2017 Youth Leadership Program

The YLP Theme for this year’s conference is “The Evolution from Boys to Men”. Pursuant to this theme, the focus will be on social empowerment and awareness, responsibility and accountability, education and critical thinking.

 

9:15am – Break Out Sessions Begin

 

Breakout Session 1 – Manhood - Session Leader – Brother Mike Gilbert

In this session Brother Gilbert will lead the discussion on responsibility & accountability. The session will be interactive and a key question to the young men will be “What do you think it takes to be a man”? Brother Gilbert will encourage discussion amongst the young men and capture “take aways”. He will select a Team Leader (during the last session) to report out on the “take aways” at the 11:30 Panel Discussion.

 

Breakout Session 2 – Scholarship – Session Leader - Brother Rene’ John Sandy

In this session Brother Sandy will lead the discussion on education and critical thinking. He will also emphasize College Life and furthering your education. Discuss the Founders of our beloved fraternity, their backgrounds and upbringings. Try to make their lives relatable to the young men. Discuss the Founders vision and then solicit feedback from the young men on what their individual visions/dreams are. Brother Sandy will select a Team Leader (during the last session) to report out on “take aways” at the 11:30 Panel Discussion.

 

Breakout Session 3 – Perseverance – Session Leader- Brother Jamel Nedderman

Brother Neederman has an interesting story to tell about his own personal life and how he overcame obstacles. He will discuss “choices” and relate the poem “See It Through” to this session. He will solicit feedback from the young men about struggles and challenges they face and try to come up with viable solutions. He will select a Team Leader (during the last session) to report out on “take aways” at the 11:30 Panel Discussion.

 

Breakout Session 4 –Uplift- Session Leader – Brother Quain Bevans

Brother Bevans will focus on Social Empowerment and Awareness with strong emphasis on Community. He can discuss current events, use of social media and protection of womanhood etc. Solicit feedback from the young men and create dialogue amongst them. He will select a Team Leader (during the last session) to report out on “take aways” at the 11:30 Panel Discussion.

 

11:15 Breakout Sessions end Young men return to the Main room (Library) and find their seats. Team Leaders head to the stage for the panel discussion. Brother Williams will host and the Session Leaders will be onstage as well to summarize the breakout session.

 

12:00 Program ends followed by Lunch.
